What is Nutritional Therapy?

Nutritional Therapy is holistic and methodical. With nutritional therapy, we work together to address symptoms and health goals through a root-cause focused approach. We do this through targeting the six foundations of nutrition- diet, digestion, blood sugar regulation, fatty acids, mineral balance, and hydration. The foundations are pillars of health that are foundational to everything… when any are out of balance it can cause a ripple effect throughout the body. When the foundations are supported, everything else has the opportunity to fall into place. With the amazing human body, nothing exists in a vacuum, so everything affects something else. As we address the foundations, the body comes back into balance, and symptoms disappear. Our medical care system is set up to support acute conditions, or conditions that have been developing for years before they show up on a blood test. We lack the ability to have someone know all the aspects of our health, which is important because they all weave together. I hope to use Nutritional Therapy to bridge that gap, and walk with my clients through all seasons and dig deep into all the aspects of their health.

We address these foundations through nutrition, eating habits, lifestyle habits, and using supplements when necessary. I take a whole food-first approach and always recommend getting nutrients through food as much as possible.

What is your nutrition philosophy?

I believe nutrition is completely bio-individual, meaning no diet or protocol is one size fits all. Since we are all different in some way, there’s not one specific approach that will work for everyone. I do not generally subscribe to any specific diet, though I may see some of them as helpful tools in some cases. A few things I do think everyone could stand by:

  • Whole Foods are the goal.

  • Diversity is key.

  • Shoot for more plants and more color.

  • Count nutrients, not calories.

  • Focus on what you can add-in rather than what to keep out.

  • Mindful eating matters…a lot.

  • Balance is the spice of life.

  • Stress, sleep, movement, relationships, work, outside time, environment, joy, etc all also play a large role in our health.

Where did you receive your nutrition education?

I studied nutrition through the Nutritional Therapy Association and received my certification as an NTP in March of 2021. I chose this program for the curriculum and its deep dive into the science of nutrition as well as its instructor-led, classroom, nature and recognizability for board certification by the National Association of Nutrition Professionals (NANP) . I am thankful for my journey with the NTA and I would highly recommend this program if you are looking for a science-based and practical nutrition education! If you are interested in becoming an NTP, I would be happy to answer any questions you have and share about my experience! As a member of the NTA, I am also pursuing a Continuing Education Certificate to stay on top of the information coming out in my field. I am committed to expanding my nutrition knowledge everyday through CEUs, online classes, and future additional certifications.

Do you accept insurance?

No, I am not able to accept insurance. However, I can accept HSA/FSA payments if you please first confirm that it is an acceptable expense for your specific insurance plan.

How will I know if it’s working for me?

The best measure is by how you feel! Are you waking up with energy? Sleeping well? Feeling satisfied and energetic? We will also use a collection of forms and charts to visually map out progress. Lastly, the beauty of a personalized approach like this is that if it’s not working, we tweak until it does.
